Chinese Green Beans - A spicy stew for the spice-lovers in this winter

Honey Garlic Green Beans

Sweet, garlicky, slightly spicy green beans—quick, glossy, and perfect as a side.

Serving 3/4 cup
Main Veg 1/2 kg green beans
Style Blanch + Blister

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 kg fresh green beans, trimmed

Method

  1. Make the sauce: Whisk honey, soy sauce, garlic, salt, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  2. Blanch: Boil water in a large saucepan. Add beans in batches and cook uncovered for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Ice bath: Transfer immediately to ice water. Drain and pat dry.
  4. Blister: Coat a stockpot with cooking spray. Stir-fry beans on high heat until lightly blistered (2–3 minutes).
  5. Toss: Add sauce; stir until coated and sauce evaporates slightly (2–3 minutes).
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and serve hot.

Recipe Variations

  • Top with almonds: Add thinly sliced almonds for extra crunch.
  • Add onion: Add sliced white onion when you first add the beans—honey sauce tastes divine on both.
