Bengaluru, 15 August 2026: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, members and residents of the Anekal Responsible Citizens Society (ARCS) came together for a voluntary labour (Shramdaan) drive to restore motorable road conditions in Anantha Nagar, along the Huskur Road Fruit Market to Heelalige, Singena Agrahara, Anantha Nagar Main Road stretch. Volunteers focused their efforts in the Anantha Nagar area, clearing junk and garbage from the roadsides, removing overgrown weeds, and repairing potholes. Two loads of wet mix, arranged with the support of former Karnataka Legislative Council member Sri Dayananda Reddy, were used to fill and level the damaged sections. The initiative gained added significance following the tragic death of a local resident in a road accident on the same stretch on 12 August, which had drawn thousands of residents to demand urgent road repairs. The locality, adjacent to Electronic City Phase II, is home to nearly 85 apartment complexes with an estimated 35,000–40,000 residents and around 40,000 students across ten educational institutions.

Organisers said the drive was not merely an Independence Day celebration but an effort to demonstrate that responsible citizenship begins with a willingness to serve one's own community, and to work alongside the administration rather than in friction with it. Under the guidance of Sri Dayananda Reddy, residents have resolved to hold the Shramdaan one day every month to clear garbage, repair roads and improve civic conditions in the area.
