Teachers’ Day: In an Era of AI, Do We Still Need Teachers?

We live in a generation where almost everything is just a click away. Want to learn something? Google it. Need an explanation? Ask AI. Want to develop a new skill? There is a YouTube tutorial for it. So considering the current scenario, one question naturally arises: Do we really need teachers anymore? The answer is more than ever. A teacher’s job was never just to provide information. Information is everywhere. Guidance is not. A teacher is the person who notices when a student is capable of more, pushes them when they want to give up, and helps them turn mistakes into lessons. Behind many successful doctors, entrepreneurs, artists, scientists and leaders is a teacher who saw potential before the world did. Our new generation is growing up in a world of constant comparison, social media pressure, competition and endless choices. In such a world teachers provide something technology cannot, and that is human connection, perspective, encouragement and accountability. Their guidance helps young people stay grounded while adapting to the future. Teachers prepare students not only for exams but also situations we face in our day-to-day life, like handling failure, working together, making decisions, communicating effectively and believing in ourselves. A teacher's influence can often be seen later in the way a student approaches a career or a challenge.

Teacher’s Day, therefore, should not be just about posting a picture with your favourite teacher or sending a “Happy Teachers’ Day” message. It should make us pause and ask: Who helped me become the person I am today? Because technology can give us answers, but a great teacher teaches us which questions are worth asking.

“A teacher plants seeds of knowledge that grow forever in the hearts of students."
