Lakes play a crucial role in our ecosystems, providing thriving habitats for countless creatures. Thirupalya Lake, situated near Margondanahalli, was unfortunately in a pitiful state, contaminated with 10 feet of sewage, effluent, and overgrown hyacinth. Experts emphasize that lakes are interconnected, meaning pollution in one lake can spread to others. Despite facing challenges, Anand Malligavad, an environmental consultant, and his team persevered for six months to restore the lake to its original condition. However, their efforts were hindered by land mafias, who even demolished the pathway built as part of their restoration work. At present, progress has come to a standstill, underscoring the need for further protection of the lake, not just for our generation but for the future. Preserving Thirupalya Lake is not solely the responsibility of social activities; each one of us should raise our voices and actively participate in safeguarding this precious resource.
