- The proud winner of the competition conducted by AI school of India across the country from BVM Global school @ Bengaluru was rewarded in a novel way. Yuthran and Aavya whose project bagged third prize in the last academic year were provided an enriching experience to narrow down their career path. Below is the account by Yuthran in his own words.
- One of the key experiences recommended during your time as a student is doing an internship. Gaining a view of how companies work is key for boosting your employability, especially in this unpredictable world. As part of the award, we had a short internship stint that comprised a class of about 1.5 hours every day. In the first few classes, we learnt about the real meaning of Artificial intelligence, and some key technical terms that employees use in the industry. In the next few classes, we progressed to Regression. This topic saw a lot of convergence between maths and the world of computers. Next, I learned about object detection.
- It's how the machine detects that a cat is a cat and a dog is a dog. In the middle of these classes, we had a guest lecture from one of the heads of the AI field. He gave a very thought-provoking lecture about AI and how the company uses AI. The computer can renderthe objects in the store giving the customers a 3-dimensional view of the product. We saw how it was done in a real mode.
- The last class was one in which we talked about careers in the AI industry. Internship showed me the difference between an industry employee and a student. It took me through the first steps of having a successful life in the field of AI.
- The casual dabbling of hobbies during the pandemic among the classmates resulted in a productive partnership. The time spent in coordinating for the project from different places, the brainstorming sessions and the final build up to the submission date helped students have a taste of the industry standards in AI. The support they received from the teachers and the parents gave them the confidence to face it head on.
