Organic foods are produced using practices that adhere to organic farming guidelines. While there are regional variations in standards, organic farming incorporates the conservation of biodiversity, ecological balance, and resource cycling. Some pesticides and fertilizers may not be allowed to be used in farming practices by organizations that oversee organic products.
From an environmental standpoint, typical farming practices such as fertilization, overproduction, and pesticide use may have a detrimental impact on ecosystems and soil health, supplies of drinking water, groundwater, and biodiversity. The goal of organic farming is to reduce or completely eliminate these negative health and environmental effects.
