Pragathi Nagar Residents Push for Independent Resolution of Kaveri Water Supply Issues
- Oct 14th, 2024
Residents of Pragathi Nagar, a thriving community under the BBMP limits, are facing growing concerns over water scarcity, especially during the summer months. For years, these residents have been promised access to Kaveri water under Stage 5 of the Kaveri water facility, as part of the 110 village project. However, despite political assurances that the connection would be completed swiftly, progress has been slow, leaving the community reliant on expensive private water suppliers during times of shortage.
Recently, political representatives stated that the installation of water meters and surveys would begin post the inauguration of Stage 5. However, with the current political climate in Karnataka and ongoing disputes such as the MUDA issue, residents are worried that the inauguration may be further delayed. In response to this uncertainty, a group of representatives from Pragathi Nagar took the initiative to visit the Chief Minister’s office, the Deputy Chief Minister’s office, and the Chief Secretary’s office at Vidhana Soudha on October 3, 2024. Their mission: to submit a formal requisition requesting the expediting of the Kaveri water supply process to their locality.
What stands out in this effort is the resolute independence of Pragathi Nagar’s residents. Living in the area for over 20 years, the community feels empowered to address their issues without depending on any individual who claims to be their local leader. Legally recognized as locals, they believe they are more than capable of handling civic matters that directly affect their lives. Rather than waiting for others to take action on their behalf, they’ve taken matters into their own hands.
The residents are optimistic that their concerted efforts will yield positive results. With their deep-rooted understanding of the locality’s challenges, Pragathi Nagar stands united in seeking solutions on their own terms—proving that they are independent, resourceful, and ready to resolve issues without the intervention of self-proclaimed local leaders.
