- Project Day is an annual event where a different topic is picked each year and researched by all the students in the school. This year’s topic was “Nari Shakti – Women Empowerment” where each grade picked up a separate subtopic related to the overall theme and learnt about it in detail. On project day, the students displayed all their learnings in the form of charts, models, interactive quizzes and audio-visual presentations. Project day not only enlightens students about the project theme itself but also teaches them the value of teamwork, delegation, planning, presentation and public speaking. Valuable lessons were also learnt from the guests of the day - Ms. Vandana Suri, Founder of Taxshe and Mr. Sailesh B.O, Artist from Cholamandal Artists Village – who shared their knowledge and experiences related to the topic with the students. Ms. Vandana Suri, Chief Guest for the day shared, "I was astounded at the children’s work. Projects on how women drop out from work, projects on women in psychology, projects on women in different careers.
- All done by kids at various ages. Wow!" Mr. Shailesh went around the campus observing keenly the charts as well as the activities and openly praised the efforts done by children in collaboration with teachers at every level. This year’s topic taught the students about the hardships and the challenges faced by women from the olden times such as the Gupta and the Egyptian periods till the present day. They also learnt about women who defied their times and governed their kingdoms and fought in wars. They learnt how women overcame many of the restrictions and hardships placed on them and are now forging ahead in every field and are contributing to the world’s progress and development. It was also very inspiring for the students when they studied the women who fought and campaigned for social reforms so that future generations of women could have better life.
- Students also learnt about the difficulties and challenges faced by modern-day women, despite all the progress that has been made and the need to ensure that both men and women have an equal footing in all walks of life. Meraki – the art gallery showcased close to 300 drawings done by children that were open to sale with the proceeds going to a charity cause. It was entirely managed by the members of PTA who enthusiastically encouraged parents to quote for higher prices. Jonali Saikia Khasnabish, co-founder and Managing Trustee of Handcrafted Foundation and the founder of Heeya Social Enterprise, addressed the students on women’s role in our independence as well as about current activists.
- In her feedback, she “congratulated the school for allowing cross transfer of learning beyond the textbook from real people of the world. It is commendable how the entire school comes together to prepare and learn for the project every year.” Thus, learning is the ultimate outcome for each and every child in following the process of Project Day.
