- This year India is celebrating its 74th Republic Day, led by President Droupadi Murmu with Chief Guest Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. A grand parade is also held on Rajpath in Delhi.
- One of the main functions of the Republic Day Parade is to pay tribute to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country and to confer bravery awards on military persons, citizenry, and children for showing courage in the face of adversity.
- This day is also to remember the struggles and sacrifices of our freedom fighters, who fought for the independence and sovereignty of our nation.
- The Constitution of India, which came into effect on this day in 1950, is a testament to the values of democracy, justice, liberty, and equality that have guided our nation since its inception. It guarantees certain fundamental rights to all its citizens and provides a framework for the government to function in a transparent and accountable manner.
- India is a republic because the Supreme head of the State/Country i.e the President is elected by the people. The term Republic is incorporated in the Preamble of the Constitution, which explains that India has an elected head as the President, who is indirectly elected for a fixed term of five years.
- On such an occasion, various programs are organized everywhere in India. The tricolour is hoisted in government, non-government offices and schools, colleges, and communities.
