Anekal, Bengaluru South: Karnataka Forest and Environment Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed officials to take action against polluters following an inspection of five lakes in Anekal taluk, raising fresh concerns over the protection of water bodies in rapidly urbanising South Bengaluru.
The inspection covered Chandapura, Muthanallur, Hennagara, Heelalige and Ramakrishnapura lakes. Officials were directed to address pollution caused by the discharge of untreated sewage and industrial effluents, according to reports.
The issue is significant for the Anekal region, where residential expansion and industrial activity around Electronics City, Bommasandra and Jigani have increased pressure on local water bodies. Effective monitoring of industrial discharge, enforcement of environmental regulations and timely completion of pending Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) works are essential to prevent further deterioration.
