District Child Protection Unit Organises Child Protection Awareness Programme in Electronic City and Parappana Agrahara

The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Bengaluru Urban West, Anekal, under the leadership of the District Child Protection Officer, Ms. Asha H. K., organised a comprehensive Child Protection Awareness Programme on 31-07-2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to promote child rights and strengthen community awareness on child protection issues. The programme was organised in collaboration with Jagruti-2026 Volunteers, ChildFund, and Jyoti Nivas College, Koramangala. As part of the awareness campaign, students of Jyoti Nivas College presented a thought-provoking street play, performed by the Niranthara Team, conveying powerful messages on child protection and the responsibilities of society in safeguarding children. The awareness programme was conducted at Ajmera Infinity Apartments, Electronic City, and Kaveri Badavane Slum Area, Parappana Agrahara. The sessions reached a diverse audience comprising domestic workers, house helpers, security guards, child caregivers, students, residents, and members of the general public. Mrs. Shipra Lamba, a volunteer from Jagruti-2026, actively supported the programme by coordinating awareness activities and interacting with community members. The programme covered several critical child protection topics, including Child Begging, Child Labour, Abandoned Children, Missing Children, Child Marriage, Child Abuse and Violence, Child Sexual Harassment, Drug Addiction among Children, School Drop-out Children, child helpline No 1098 and Child Trafficking. Participants were educated on recognising children in need of care and protection, reporting child-related offences, preventing exploitation, and understanding their role in ensuring the safety and well-being of every child.

The street play performed by the Niranthara Team effectively conveyed the consequences of child exploitation and inspired the audience to take collective responsibility for protecting children. The performance received an enthusiastic response and significantly enhanced public awareness through its engaging and impactful presentation. The programme also emphasised the importance of building a child-friendly society, encouraging community participation, promoting education, preventing abuse and exploitation, and ensuring that every child enjoys a safe and nurturing environment. Information was shared on reporting mechanisms and the importance of timely intervention in cases involving children in need of care and protection. The awareness programme was well received at both venues. Participants actively interacted with the resource persons, sought clarification on child protection issues, and expressed appreciation for the initiative. Many participants stated that the programme had enhanced their understanding of child rights, legal provisions, government welfare services, and the importance of community participation in child protection. The successful organisation of the programme reflects the dedicated efforts of the District Child Protection Unit, Bengaluru Urban West, Anekal, under the guidance of District Child Protection Officer Ms. Asha H. K. The District Child Protection Unit Bengaluru Urban West Anekal expressed their appreciation to Jagruti-2026 Volunteers, ChildFund, Jyoti Nivas College, Koramangala, the Niranthara Team, and all volunteers and participants for their valuable collaboration and wholehearted support in making the awareness campaign a meaningful success.

The programme concluded to remain vigilant, report child rights violations, and work together with government agencies and community organisations to ensure a safe, secure, and child-friendly environment for every child.
