Cardio Is Good For Your Heart, But Muscle Is Your Metabolism. Women are often told fat loss requires more cardio and more exhaustion. Physiology says otherwise. After 30, women lose 3-8% of muscle mass per decade. Less muscle means slower metabolism, poorer blood sugar control, lower bone density, and more fat gain — especially during perimenopause and menopause. Strength training reverses this. Muscle is the body's largest site for glucose disposal, so building it improves insulin sensitivity, supports hormonal balance, and protects bone health. It also raises your resting metabolic rate. You don't need hours of exercise. Three to four structured weight-training sessions a week are enough to change how your body ages.
Cardio is essential for the heart. But muscle is what protects your metabolism.
